Visiting ...and Rain ...

Yesterday we were told that rain, rain, rain, was predicted for Wednesday.

This morning (Wednesday) we awoke to ....steady rain!!!

Slowly we eased ourselves into the day ...wandered downstairs ...looked at the TV (and were interested to hear that today there would be rain ....!) ..and fossicked about for some breakfast.
Eventually we decided to put on another caffetierre of coffee, and looked out the window at the relentless rain.

So we chatted about yesterday ...and in particular, the lovely evening we'd spent at Catriona's and Graham's home in Harrogate.

Although wet and sometimes downright 'squishy' in places, yesterday we had stolled contentedly within the formal water gardens of Fountains. Not many people around, but plenty of pheasants, beautiful white swans, and a variety of other water birds.

Enjoyed chatting to gardeners, finding funghi in odd out of the way places ...and looking at the deepening autumn colours.

Later in the evening we headed off to 'The Lawns' ...and dinner.

So nice to catch up with Catriona and Graham, and also Jan and Dave who were the other guests.

And the dinner ...well, it was simply delicious!
The smoked salmon starter ...then the lamb main course - a melt-in-the-mouth event!! And the delicious fruit and sorbet dessert. The coffee/cheese/chocolates - all wonderful! ....thank you SO much.

And we talked.
Surprised?? ...And rolled home quite late ...but I think we nearly managed to crawl in under the duvet at midnight!!!

So back to TODAY, and the RAIN.

Well ...there was nothing else for it really.
Off we went into Harrogate to catch up with Sandra again at "Fine Fabrics".
Yes, we talked some more, but ...this time it wasn't ONLY a social visit, and I did come away with a couple of bags!!

We eventually splashed happily home again through the puddles - several so large they spanned the hedge enclosed country  lanes from one side to the other. Arthur "forded" them grinning from ear to ear! - quite exciting really.

It is late afternoon now. The rain seems to have stopped. It is just possible that if this keeps up we will be able to let ourselves in through the back gate and enjoy another solitary stroll to The Abbey.
