Old Father Thames

Now here we are down by the river bank   - in “New Cottage” (built incidentally, around 1900), literally a couple of metres from the river edge.
 …I love this place!

It’s special to us because we have been here with both Matt and Andrew, not just the two of us.

…and during one memorable winter, we were snowed in down here by the river – the car could not be moved so …… WE were rescued by the RAC men!!

It is tranquil and peaceful here …truly a place to rest the mind and the soul.
Old River Thames just goes quietly about his business … rolling on towards London, …and we relax.

This is “Clivedon”,  at Taplow, (near Maidenhead) in Buckinghamshire - once the home of Lord and Lady Astor. The estate is now owned and managed by The National Trust, while The House itself is a Country House Hotel.

We are enjoying rambling around along by the river and up towards The House.

Sitting outside our cottage this afternoon, hot drink in hand I just drank in the surroundings.

I enjoyed chats with a family and their dog, then a pleasant couple of ladies.
And exchanged waves with several boats passing by …well, with the people on them who waved at me! …and received a cheery greeting from a group of passing canoes!!

Then, alone again, I listened to the birds …and the river. Now and then more autumn leaves slowly fell …and the pair of white swans meandered to and fro.
Rather good really!!!

We had a good, but long!! trip down from Yorkshire yesterday to get here..
After settling in …it’s great that I have Arthur to carry the bags down the river path to our cottage! …we did the usual things.

Found a supermarket, then drove into Windsor to get Arthur a temporary internet connection, as there’s no wi-fi in New Cottage.

While there, I walked up to visit the Queen (!!) at the Castle …
…and found a Hobbs – where I discovered a particularly pretty skirt, and a cardigan (or two).

Now it is evening …we’ve enjoyed a simple meal …and are thinking about what we may do tomorrow.
Something …? Or nothing…?! These choices are bliss.
