So many wonderful memories of Yorkshire come back to us now, on our last evening there in 2015. Here are a few of our favourite things.....
Arriving at the grand old age of 132 in style...
What an absolutely wonderful birthday!
Jan and Dave had invited us to their place for dinner. Jan insisted
that I could not cook my own birthday dinner. And what a treat it
was!!! A long evening of catching up with wonderful food and
friendliness.
The food was delicious - as always. We ate too much, talked and laughed, and talked ...and rolled home in the middle of the night.
Going to Betty's.
Afternoon tea with Jan and Catriona was a fun event. I think we were very noisy ...hope we didn't bother the surrounding tables TOO much.
Lucky enough to have a window table, a sunny spot that was made even better with the array of goodies that in their good time made their way onto our white tablecloth. Yummm! And in their own good time, disappeared inside four happy people.
Very surprisingly, we talked ...and chatted, ...chuckled, got serious ... generally shared our lives and the food with enthusiasm.
Harrogate ...the Fabric Shop ...sunshine on The strays ...the autumn colours and flowers in the Valley Gardens ...
The Dales (and over the moors) ...pottering around in the shops and little villages, and....
...wishing again that I could buy a chimney pot to put in the garden.
Walking.
So many places we walked.
The highlight is "Fountains" ...where we walked at least every day. Often several times.
The autumn colours are just magnificent, and we've enjoyed every bit of it.
And we've talked to so many people on our walks. Who can ever say the English are not friendly ..?!
One very friendly couple from South Yorkshire stopped and chatted to us for over half an hour and later we met up with them at The Tea Rooms by the Big Lake. At their insistence, we shared a table with them, talked some more, and sat looking out the bat window enjoying our warm drinks.
This evening we visited Jan and Dave again. We all walked down from their place to their Village Pub and thoroughly enjoyed the very good food that they do there, and the general atmosphere of the place.
Back at their place for a hot drink.
A splendid last evening for us in this county we have come to love SO much.
But tonight we had packing awaiting us back at Abbey Cottage.
Tomorrow, (like so many birds at this time of the year...) we are traveling South.
